Artist/ Producer/ Entertainer A new musical maelstrom is set to add his splash of local color to St. Louis musical map. One part rapper, one part producer, 100% talent adds up to St. Louis newest exciting entry in the Hip-Hop game. – RED. At the age of 19, RED is already a veritable veteran in local production circles. The name Red was given to him as a child by his grandfather because of his hair color. By both of them living in the same area it didn’t take long for the whole neighborhood, and later the whole city to catch on to the nickname. "When thinking of a professional name, the name Red was like a given, people already knew me by that name so there was no point in trying to change who I am," he says. Performing along sides of St. Louis’ new major artist like Penelope Jones (Universal), Huey (Jive), and Jibbs (Interscope/Geffen), R.E.D. has quickly built a fan base in St. Louis just as large. Not only has he just been featured in just about every mixtape and DVD in the Midwest his first single has taken over like no other. The song entitled "How You Ride" has quickly become a club and parking lot anthem for the city moving over 2,500 single and digital ringtone sales locally in less than 2 weeks independently. The young rapper really doesn’t have to say much with those kind of numbers. When asked how he felt about his somewhat overnight buzz he says, “It feels good but I feel this is just a small start of a real big picture that was seen a long time ago”, then later adds, “but as of right now I can say that I helped push a movement in a city that CNN labeled the most dangerous city in America in 2006, that’s gotta count for something,” while briefly laughing on a live radio interview. Though it may be pretty easy to see the "pretty boy" image that he carries, things weren’t too pretty while growing up for this youngster. Living in a low class neighborhood located in northern St. Louis he quickly found himself in several bad situations. Because of this music was a sure ways to avoid these situations thanks to his family. As time passed and he got older he chose to take music on to be a profession. “Nelly, The St. Lunatics, J-Kwon and Chingy all have brought a lot of attention to the St. Louis area and I do appreciate and show them a lot of love for that, but I feel that I’m a younger generation of St. Louis music with a totally different and unique sound” he says. Though there are several industry rap artist in the same age group of the St. Louis native, he has a total different swagger that he carries. He boasts with a certain level of arrogance with a charismatic deliverance that makes the crowds go crazy for him. Unlike the sing-song rap style of the older generation of St. Louis, R.E.D. rides the beat with a totally brand new and unique style of deliverance of his own.
