Rarely does a musician come along who seems as if he was born with an instrument in hand. More rare still is when that instrument seems to be an independent entity to the man himself, commanding and directing the flow of music. Robert Mathison (Rosalie) and those instruments he lays his hands to is just such a musician. At times, the guitar is a sword, his drums calling the signal to battle, while his piano plays the funeral dirge of those slain by his eloquent and heartfelt lyrics. He sweats his music on stage. He makes love to his guitar for whomever will watch. He pounds the drums with impunity to noise levels. He is the musician all other musicians strive to be, even as he shyly ducks the blows his Muse delivers on a regular basis... Robert Mathison lurks in the shadows of a scene filled with bar-hopping, midnight drug excursions, & blinking neon signs. The anonymity that comes with such a scene is both a blessing & a curse -- the volatility of being discovered, & the humble feeling of captivating a small audience with little to no effort. After all, what has come out of Indianapolis? What has come out of the sorrowful Midwest?
